Learning Challenge: Health Article on Sleep

Sleep by Kseast from flickr Reading the article on sleep, it was interesting to find out that after 20 hours awake your brain functions at the same level as if you were legally drunk. I was shocked by the statistic that 1 in 4 people don't graduate. It seems reasonable, it's just quantifying it is very ominous. While I think that some of the recommendations on this list are great ideas to implement, such as not drinking caffeine before bedtime, some are just unrealistic for college students who are also working jobs. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule and not staying u

Reading Notes Monkey King Part 1

perropicante by DSC_0125 from flickr It's really interesting to learn how the Monkey King recieved his powers. I've heard about a few of his accomplishments but seeing that he went through years of training was interesting. I had always assumed that he was born that way. I really liked that despite all the training he received in manners and acting human-like he was still a monkey at heart that liked to goof off. Reading Notes Sinbad Part 1

Sailboat by el_vaquero from flickr Reading this first part of Sinbad was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the laidback feel of his tales where he is always yearning to go back out on these adventures no matter how many dangers he has faced. The one thing that stood out to me is that he is always the only survivor of these situations regardless of how many are there at the start. Week 5 Story – The Bedtime Tale

The Goblin Tree by Adam Charnock from flickr This post is now on my portfolio! And so as night fell, I carried my daughter to her bed. Her tired eyes grew big as she said, "Father, please tell me more of the story." I chuckled as I pulled the sheets over her. "Oh, alright, but just a bit." Her face lit up, and I sat down on the bed and continued the tale I had started many nights ago. "Where was I? Ah, yes, I made my way back to that tree, still determined to keep the promise I made with the monk. I took the goblin down from the tree once again and slung him o

Reading Notes for Ovid’s Metamorphoses Part 2

Reflections by John from flickr It's honestly strange how some of these backstories are told. With Tiresias, he was blinded by Juno for simply disagreeing with her in a basic argument. Although, in cases like with Echo Juno's retaliation seems warranted or at least justified to an extent. The same could be said about Narcissus who rejected everyone due to his pride. Reading about a man who loves himself mourning the fact he cannot be with himself is a very surreal experience. Ovid’s Metamorphoses by Ovid

Reading Notes for Ovid’s Metamorphoses Part 1

Apollo's Chariot by Killian77 from flickr I really enjoyed the first part of Metamorphoses. Phaethon's story stuck out to me the most. The way Ovid describes the ride in the chariot was very descriptive. I think it would be really interesting to write the story from the perspective of Phaethon. To think about his panic and fear is something that we could only imagine. Ovid's Metamorphoses by Ovid

Feedback Thoughts

Global Business Innovation Conversations by Matt Houston from flickr When reading the article Silence the Critics in Your Head, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what the author was saying. I think that a lot of good people can focus only on the negative aspects of themselves and that can hold them back from what they do well. I also think that it's important to maintain a constant goal of improvement of your negative qualities as well. While it's great to keep yourself positive and understand that there are things that you are doing right, you shouldn't let that so

Topic Brainstorm

Youkai by Chie Gondo from flickr Beowulf is a tale that I might be interested in doing my project over. I like the aspect of the great hero that conquers unthinkable odds. Like mentioned in the project ideas for Beowulf it's already broken into three parts which would make an easy transition into a storybook format for this class. I don't have too much knowledge of the story other than the basic overview of the different parts. I was thinking about maybe telling the story from a first person perspective of a follower or a third person perspective with a campfire story t
